In 1948, he started taking color photographs. Eugene Smith encouraged Leiter to pursue photography and he was soon taking black and white pictures with a 35 mm Leica, which he acquired for a few Eugene Smith prints. He had developed an early interest in painting and was fortunate to meet the Abstract Expressionist painter Richard Pousette-Dart. At age 23, he left theology school and moved to New York City to become an artist. His mother gave him his first camera at age 12. His father was a well-known Talmud scholar and Saul studied to become a rabbi. Saul Leiter was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The male love interest speaks in an archaic way and seems a bit too naive. GoF gets really social justice-y, so it was truly an emotional ride. I cried a lot throughout the book - when the death eaters showed up at the World Cup, oh gosh it tore me up. Reading the story in today's world was really tough. ![]() I just have high expectations, maybe?Įither way, there are beautiful illustrations and I wanted to share my favorite from the book. Still I love that they're creating illustrated versions for the entire series. Rowling's classic series has captured a devoted following worldwide, and the drama just gets bigger as the series progresses. Order of Phoenix is my absolute favorite Harry Potter novel, so I really hope the illustrated version lives up to my expectations, though it may be five years before it exists. Dragons Daring Danger The first fully illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is an extraordinary creative achievement by two extraordinary talents. There were promises of more detail and more illustrations, which was the reason for the two-year wait for GoF, and I just feel lied to. ![]() Legit, there were entire chapters without illustrations. Don't get me wrong - I'm glad this illustrated version exists and I own it, but the wait for this book was twice as long and I felt like there were hardly any illustrations inside. ![]() Well, I thought I was disappointed with the illustrations in Prisoner of Azkaban, but this Goblet of Firedisappointment is a whole new world of letdown. ![]() |
